A semi-annual Kansas Law Enforcement Pistol Qualification is not sufficient for church security team members. Additionally, it does not constitute “training” as it does not enable development of shooting skills. The worship place security setting introduces the possibility of complex shooting problems that require real shooting solutions. We aim to provide those shooting solutions.
*Churches should allot for 300 rounds of pistol ammunition, per shooter, per 4hr training block.

This 6-hour class teaches the systematic employment of your church security team’s most valuable tool, situational awareness. It will lay the foundation for how your team functions when responding to any situation. This is not just a class on theory. All topics covered will be brought together in exercises. Problem
Leading, organizing, training, and facilitating a church security program can be a daunting task. This often places the Church Security team as what we would call a “backburner ministry team.” Ultimately, the role of the security team is not taken seriously and isn’t really treated like a ministry team at all. This can stem from a variety of reasons.
-Often times, church security leaders are over tasked with other ministry duties -There is no church security team structure in place - There is a lack of knowledge or skills native to the church/team to train people -Training that is accessible is outdated and impractical - The team is not trained to the structures, policies, or procedures currently in place -Training is only conducted quarterly or less
The list could go on.
The result?
A security team is often comprised of men with hearts to protect and intent to serve. Unfortunately, the teams are often undertrained. The good training that does exist in the team comes from their various career fields. The team is now comprised of men with vastly different vernaculars, training, and experiences. The real problem is that the team has very limited training together, as a cohesive TEAM. Compounding on the problem is that the team members are given limited clarity on their roles and the structure and mission of the team. Team members may be identifying security issues or team/training problems but have no real avenue to correct them. No way to get everyone on the same page. No time to get everyone on the same page. Exacerbating the issue is burnout. The team members are always serving and never really being fed in their own worship place. No other volunteers can be found because the security team isn’t regarded as a “real ministry service.” And training isn’t conducted frequently enough to train someone who isn’t former law enforcement/military. This limits your options. At this rate, the worship team is training far more than the men in the building carrying guns.
The bottom line? The security team members take on a tremendous amount of personal liability and are underserved and under prepared. It unfair to them, they want to work unto the lord. Worse yet, it’s unfair to the women and children of the congregation who have entrusted their safety to a team that doesn’t have the resources and training they need to truly serve. At the end of the day, it’s just poor stewardship.

Conducting audits of your own security protocols, conduct, and physical areas of preparedness allows you to identify weak points in your structure. Unfortunately, due to the nature of bias confirmation, we can become blind to our own weaknesses. It is good to have many sets of eyes and minds take a look at the problem. Doing this is wise. However, due to the nature of church security and volunteer staffing you may not have the knowledge, skill, or time available to you to properly conduct an audit, we want to help you with that. We provide an on-site written 50-point security audit to identify where your congregation can properly invest time, money, and training to improve your security posture. We do this because we believe it is pertinent to good stewardship.
Why Develop a Security Program?
A commonly overlooked necessity for worship place safety / security teams is the establishment of policy and procedures.
Written policy and procedures are critical for a security teams for the following reasons:
- They establish unity and purpose for team members
- They establish a mutual understanding of team structure
- They establish authorities and oversight
- They communicate the duties and responsibilities of team members
- They establish a standard of measurement for team competence and training
